This was a great, busy week. Last weekend was my brother and now sister-in-law's wedding!
Don't they look so happy? The wedding was full of fun, dancing, and googly eyes, like the best ones are. I'm so excited to have another sister! The wedding was also near my parents' house so I got to spend some time snuggling this guy.
I worked out a good amount this week and had two totally different runs: One was in 80+ degree heat when I was tired and dehydrated (spoiler alert: it was awful) and the other was a cloudy, early morning run where I ran one of my fastest 5Ks yet. I also was lucky enough to get in an evening walk with my husband almost every night this week. This was after a particularly sweaty HIIT workout!
It was a great week for food, per usual!

Today we took a trip to the Boothbay Botanical Gardens for the first time since this weekend is free entry (!) and we loved it. We walked about 3 miles looking at everything!
The top left is a reflexology labyrinth where you take your shoes off and walk around it to get a foot massage, thanks to nature. It was a little odd at first to take our shoes off and walk around but after we did a bunch of kids joined us and it was really fun! The last picture is from the end of our hike -- after we found, and thankfully avoided, a porcupine. Of course we ended the day with a lobster roll!
Next weekend we're headed to Vermont for my college reunion and I'll get to see friends I haven't seen in years--and eat at some of my all time favorite restaurants! Have a great week everyone!
If you're Elizabeth Gilbert, you call it "Big Magic" and teach "magic lessons." If you're Shonda Rhimes, you call it "the hum." If you're Francois Rabelais, or John Green, you call it "the great perhaps."
Regardless of what you call it, a great perhaps is the adventure of life -- the going after what you want, even if it's scary as hell. It's the "I'm terrified but I'm doing it anyway." It's the titan playing with her children, even though she's not good at it. It's moving to a different country that doesn't share a language with you. It's quitting your full time, cushy job because you know it's not the thing that keeps your soul alive.
So, how do we get that spark, that adventure, on a Tuesday night when the biggest plan is watching the newest episode of The Voice? Honestly? You don't. A great perhaps is not something you do overnight. It's something we have to seek, almost all the time. This is not to say you can't make it happen on a Tuesday night; you sure can, but it's not something that will happen on its own. There are (genius) ways to make your week feel more like weekends but that probably won't get you to the great perhaps, maybe more like a perhaps. And that's okay -- we all need a perhaps on a weeknight -- but it's not the thing. The thing takes guts, takes time, takes risk, takes heart. Sometimes it happens overnight -- a decision to say yes -- and sometimes it's very slow, steady progress -- working out every day, eating a salad instead of a sandwich for lunch.
Most of all, you have to figure out what your great perhaps is. Mine is books (what better, cheaper way to travel is there?), food, working out, time with family and friends, and traveling. These are not grand but together they are great. Yours might be deciding to run a half marathon or a trip to a new place or even trying a new food or activity. Small things, a few perhaps, can come together to make a great perhaps. The most important part of a great perhaps is starting. So, what's your great perhaps and what are you going to do about it?
